Business Continuity Case Studies
Automating Business Continuity Processes for an Architect
Background and Requirement
The client, a renowned international landscape architectural practice, had a backup procedure which relied on a large number of tapes. Not only did this tape based solution consume a significant amount of human resource, it also required constant intervention for machine and tape maintenance. In addition, the company recognised that they had no formal business continuity plans and so were very exposed to any major IT outage.
The failure of the tape backup unit was the trigger to re-evaluate their backup options. However, this was also reinforced by their lack of a formal continuity plan. This was likely to impact on their winning any new business as, increasingly, clients were looking to work with suppliers who had formal continuity procedures in place.
Solving Business Continuity Problems for a Logistics Organisation
Background and Requirement
The Chairman of this logistics organisation was very concerned with the robustness of their business continuity plans and the ability of the company to be up and working within 48 hours of any major disaster occurring.
The company had established a disaster plan some time ago, but the basis of the plan was pretty inflexible and failed to meet their current disaster recovery (DR) requirements. With regard to IT and data recovery, the existing arrangement was to rent server space at a third party data storage facility. Our client didn’t have direct access to their DR servers and had to physically attend the data-vault to update operating system changes to the servers, before data could be stored. Consequently, the DR set up could be several weeks out of date in terms of server configuration and stored data. All-in-all, the arrangement was very cumbersome and expensive to maintain.
